"Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: 'What! You too? I thought I was the only one”(C.S. Lewis)
I love how God just begins to weave His way in us. How he opens a door without us even knowing it. How he begins to provide us with the information and the direction of His will. Our job is just to be still, shut up, listen, and say yes. Really how hard is that? Yeh, I know...most of the time very hard.
I have been given the opportunity to speak at a women's event in September and the focus of the day will be friendship and feeling alone in a crowd. God already began preparing me to share on this subject before I even knew that the opportunity would be. He is pretty cool like that.
"Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: 'What! You too? I thought I was the only one.” I read this quote today by CS Lewis and it goes right along with the direction that God has been leading me. (Even to the point of beginning this blog)
We have many friendships throughout our lives that come and go. However, the impact of those friendships are with us forever. I believe that our God is a Grand Weaver and He weaves our lives together in such a way to make a beautiful tapestry. He said in the beginning that it was not good for man to be alone. We were created for fellowship... for friendship... with God and with each other.
So I am excited for the opportunity to teach on the topic of friendship and even more excited to sit back and have God teach me. Being a good and true friend is right up there with being a good and true spouse and/or parent. It's about loyalty, love, grace, mercy, intimacy, faith, character, integrity, and peace. As a matter of fact I believe that if we can learn how to be a good and true friend then being a good and true spouse is not an issue and if we can teach our children how to be a good and true friend then we are giving them a leg up on their future marriages and we are preparing them for the days of transition in the parent/child relationship and we are raising them up to just flat out be real . We live in a day where true friendship can be hard to find. The day of online personalities make the opportunity to have a hundred different faces very easy. It also makes it very easy to "appear to be a friend" without ever really having to "be a friend". Real friendship is not one-sided. It is not shallow. It is not hollow. It is not an illusion.
So Father give me ears to hear and eyes to see and a heart soft and pliable. I am the clay in the hands of the Potter, the thread in the loom of the Grand Weaver, and I desire to know You and Your ways and to be used by You to bring You glory...
For no longer do You call me slave, for now You call me friend (John 15:15).
